What Are The Advantages Of Solar Power And How Might It Involve You

There are benefits and disadvantages to using solar electricity over conventional hydrocarbon fuels. Normal fuels have a good deal going against them, including the most obvious fact that they pollute the atmosphere and are deadly to breathe. Their largest downside is that the supply is swiftly becoming exhausted and even though we needed to turn the air black it will not be long until we run out if our use continues to increase at the prevailing rate.

Some of the usages of solar energy include :

  • solar homes
  • solar lights
  • solar panels

So what are the solar energy advantages over these traditional fuels? Well they are clean and they create power with out the noise of motors or turbines. The Sun doesn’t charge for it’s energy so for all practical purposes the power is free after the opening cost.

On the other hand the opening cost is actually a bit which is a robust dissuasive for the general house owner when the question of making the switch to solar energy comes up. Happily if you do your research there are sometimes State and Federal programs that may assist with this problem. Once installed there is very little upkeep needed.

Another problem with Solar Energy Panels is they are deeply ineffectual. Less than 20% of the energy received by the solar cell is converted into electricity which implies that the panels must have a fairly big surface area in order to produce enough energy to provide power for your home. This leads directly to another downside which is that solar cells will not produce power at night. To solve that difficulty most solar cell installations are giant battery chargers and the house is powered by batteries.

Since most home appliances run on alternating electric current and a battery supplies direct current you need to add a device called a power inverter that may allow your appliances to run off the system. These basically work pretty well there is however some power loss whenever you do something like that so it adds to the drawback of solar energy being ineffective.

Now the best thing is that there is no charge for the power you are wasting since the sun doesn’t send you a once per month bill. It does however mean you want to take a position in more solar panel surface area so as to get the job done. You can always do your own installation if you are handy, but be sure to do the research or get help to make sure your system will do the job you want it to do.

Naturally little solar projects like solar floodlight or solar Christmas lights are easily done without pro help since it is often as complicated as sticking a “stick” in the ground.

Even though it is costlier to have your system designed and installed professionally some times it prohibits Problems and makes sure that your system will accomplish the job you want it to do when it is finished. Some of us however just love a challenge and the upside is that you learn from your mistakes and you gain a real knowledge of your system and can easily repair it your self if anything goes badly wrong in the future.

I realize I have been focusing on the drawbacks and how these can be overcome, but the real blessings of solar energy are the things I discussed at the start ; it is clean energy with no damaging side effects ; After the original installation the energy is free and as there are no moving parts it is virtually upkeep free ; It can be used even in remote areas that are off the grid ; It is possible you can sell power back to the power company in some places resulting in a very low and possibly negative electricity bill, suggesting that the power company will pay you.

There are some interesting advances being made in the solar energy field daily. Efficiency and the price of making the panels is improving and finally there might be no downsides to solar energy. However, the pros far outweigh the cons, even now. Discover more about the advantages of solar energy!
