Types of Solar Water Heating Systems

Solar water heaters can operate in most types of climates and have the lowest-maintenance among all the types of systems available. Solar water heating, otherwise known as SWH, is water made hot by solar energy acquired from sunlight for commercial, industrial or residential locations.

The 2 main types of solar water heating systems are active and passive. Active solar water heaters employ a circulating pump to distribute water or heat transfer fluid between the collector and tank. Available in 2 types: direct non passive styles deliver water to the collector and then on to the tank, in contrast, indirect non passive styles circulate HTF through a solar thermal collector and heat exchanger. The heat produced is transported to the tank water.
