Constructing Your Own Shed – The Simple Way

If you are in need of a storage shed, then you may be trying to figure out how to build a shed. If you are good with tools, this will not pose too great a challenge for you. All that is needed are the correct shed plans that will guide you towards what to buy and how to build. This will be a tedious job with plans that are wrong. In contrast, this will be a simple job if you have the correct plans.

Step one is to gauge the area in which you wish to place the shed. This will help you figure what size shed you can build. Once the area and size are determined, it is time for you to buy your plans.

After you purchase your plans then you have what you need to know which materials to buy. You will need wood for your project, make sure you work out as accurately as possible how much you need. Make sure you have your tools lined up that you will need too. Your pre-drawn scheme should help.

Once you have all your lumber and tools, you have to chop your wood to size. Having all the pieces of lumber cut and ready will save you a lot of time in assembly.

You first lay the framework for the floor out and nail it together. Nail guns are the most commonly used tool for this task today. Once the framework for the floor is nailed together, make sure this framework is square. Continuing, you will need to place the boards of the floor down. For this, you will need to cut some plywood sheets. Nail the floorboards in securely.

Next, you lay out the side supports and make the framework for all four sides. Just remember to leave an open space for the door. Then place the sheets of plywood in place for the walls and nail in. At this stage, place any necessary outside and inside trim work at this time that is in the plans. Each step varies at this point, depending upon the shed’s style.

Once the walls are complete, you will need to place the framework and rafters for the roof. Nail everything into place as directed in the blueprint. Then enclose the shed with plywood for the roof. If any wood needs trimming off do it now.

Using the correct hardware, attach the doors. Make sure these fit properly to insure they operate correctly. Ending up with mismatched doors is probably the worst case scenario.

Sand and paint your shed whatever color you choose. You will need to buy paint that is meant for the outdoors, so it will be able to handle the weather. It is a good idea to buy roof shingles for your shed, this is a personal preference and it is not necessary. Of course, if you do the shingles you need to learn how to do them correctly.

Now that you are an expert in how to build a shed, go purchase your plans. You will save a great deal of money when building your own shed over a ready-built one. You will be filled with a sense of pride each time you glance over at the shed you built on your own. Build a shed today!
